Congratulations to this month's Cool Bug Photo Contest winner – Abram Barrera! This month we have received many cool bug photos from all over the world but our judges went with a dramatic photo - a death scene actually. This is no Bee Movie! This is a predatory wasp attacking a larva!   

WASP FACTS: Wasps belong to the Order Hymenoptera. Some wasps like the Potter Wasps are solitary while others, like the Yellow Jacket or Paper Wasps, are social and may contain thousands in a colony. Parasitic wasps can be as small as a few centimeters while some Hornets can grow over 1.5 inches! WARNING: Never squash a Yellow Jacket near the nest. A dying Yellow Jacket will release a pheromone, or chemical smell, that tells the other wasps to come to its rescue. Within seconds a swarm of angry wasps will be heading your way.
